Since Thanksgiving is all about, well … giving thanks … I thought it would be appropriate to take a look at some Bible verses about thanksgiving (giving thanks to God), and a beautiful Thanksgiving prayer I found. I hope that these verses will remind us where they gifts we have received come from, and that our Thanksgiving prayer would be to help others who are less fortunate than ourselves as we move into the Christmas season. Enjoy!
Help Me Thanksgiving Prayer
O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness:
come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise:
be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.
2 Corinthians 9:11 New International Version (NIV)
11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
Jeremiah 30:19 New International Version (NIV)
19 From them will come songs of thanksgiving
and the sound of rejoicing.
I will add to their numbers,
and they will not be decreased;
I will bring them honor,
and they will not be disdained.
Psalm 107:8-9 New International Version (NIV)
8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
9 for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.
Psalm 106:1New International Version (NIV)
Psalm 106:1 New International Version (NIV)
1 Praise the Lord.[a]
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
